The practice of hiring “body doubles” or “stand-ins” is well-documented by official Chinese media. In 2009, a hospital president who caused a deadly traffic accident hired an employee’s father to “confess” and serve as his stand-in. A company chairman is currently charged with allegedly arranging criminal substitutes for the executives of two other companies. In another case, after hitting and killing a motorcyclist, a man driving without a license hired a substitute for roughly $8,000. The owner of a demolition company that illegally demolished a home earlier this year hired a destitute man, who made his living scavenging in the rubble of razed homes, and promised him $31 for each day the “body double” spent in jail.
In China, the practice is so common that there is even a term for it: ding zui. Ding means “substitute,” and zui means “crime”; in other words, “substitute criminal.”
The ability to hire so-called substitute criminals is just one way in which China’s extreme upper crust are able to live by their own set of rules. While Occupy Wall Street grabbed attention for its attacks on the “1 percent,” in China, a much smaller fraction of the country controls an even greater amount of wealth. The top one-tenth of 1 percent in China controls close to half of the country’s riches.

China’s Wealthy And Powerful Sometimes Hire Body Doubles To Serve Their Prison Sentences:
In America, the power to imprison and punish convicts has been outsourced to private corporations, so perhaps the serving of jail sentences will soon be “privatized” as well. Slate writes:

Veterans are being targeted in aftermath of Homeland Security smear campaign.
The lawyer who helped secure the release of Brendon Raub, a former Marine forcibly incarcerated in a psychiatric ward by authorities in Virginia for political posts on Facebook, told the Alex Jones Show today that there are currently a further 20 cases in his county alone that are similar in nature to Raub’s detention.
John Whitehead of the Rutherford Institute also said that he had been contacted by numerous veterans in the aftermath of Raub’s release who had encountered similar problems with authorities attempting to have them declared mentally ill.
Whitehead attributed the high number of cases involving veterans as a consequence of the Department of Homeland Security’s aggressive campaign to demonize former servicemembers as domestic extremists.
Despite controversy at the time, DHS chief Janet Napolitano said she stood by an April 2009 DHS intelligence assessment that listed returning vets as likely domestic terrorists.
Just a month later, the New York Times reported on how Boy Scout Explorers were being trained by the DHS to kill “disgruntled Iraq war veterans” in terrorist drills.
The FBI has also gone out of its way to characterize returning veterans from Iraq and Afghanistan as a major domestic terrorist threat.
Whitehead pointed to efforts on behalf of health authorities in the United States to characterize distrust of authority as a mental illness under the label “oppositional defiant disorder” or ODD.
As we highlighted earlier today, veterans in particular are being targeted in police raids to confiscate their firearms based on the manufactured pretext that they are “mentally defective.”
Earlier this year, we also reported on a similar case involving David Sarti, one of the participants in the National Geographic Channel’s Doomsday Prepper show. Sarti visited his doctor complaining of chest pains, only to have the doctor later commit him to a psychiatric ward and alert authorities, before Sarti was declared “mentally defective” and put on an FBI list that stripped him of his second amendment rights.
During an interview with Alex Jones last night, Whitehead also revealed that shortly before his release, psychiatrists had threatened to forcibly medicate Raub in order to “brainwash” him.
Critics have made comparisons to the infamous psikhushka psychiatric prisons in the former Soviet Union where dissidents were sent to be isolated, brainwashed, and have their political ideas discredited amongst the general public.
Whitehead added that Brandon Raub is currently at home recovering from his ordeal and that he plans to file a civil lawsuit against the government for damages. Whitehead hopes that the shocking nature of the case will force Congress to begin investigations that could strip the state’s power to carry out civil commitments, under which victims are declared mentally ill with little due process and detained in psychiatric wards.

The Ministry of Defence will no longer investigate UFO sightings after ruling there is “no evidence” they pose a threat to the UK despite a senior aviation official admitting the country is visited by one unidentified flying object a month.

It is official at last: Britain is not at risk from unidentified flying objects.
Those who have long feared an invasion from Mars or further afield can relax – at least, that is, if they believe the Ministry of Defence.
An end has been ordered to all official investigations of Unidentified Flying Objects, or UFOs, after the ministry ruled they do not pose a threat to the nation’s security.
It comes as the head of UK Air Traffic Control admitted the country is visited by around one unidentified flying object a month.
Asked on BBC Radio 4′s Today programme about the existence of UFOs, Mr Deakin confirmed they were still being seen by his staff.

It comes as the head of UK Air Traffic Control admitted the country is visited by around one unidentified flying object a month.
Asked on BBC Radio 4′s Today programme about the existence of UFOs, Mr Deakin confirmed they were still being seen by his staff.
He said: “Occasionally there are objects identified that do not conform to normal traffic patterns. It does not occupy a huge amount of my time. There are approximately one a month.”
Yet despite this, the MoD insists it will no longer investigate UFO sightings.
The ruling came after the careful collation over the years of reports of strange lights in the skies, odd noises and apparent close encounters.
The move to end all investigation was disclosed after a dedicated hotline for UFO sightings was discontinued for cost grounds, and the “UFO desk”, which cost £44,000 a year was also removed.
Now officials say that any UFO investigation would divert valuable resources and instead a sophisticated network of radar infrastructure and anti-ballistic missile systems to monitor British airspace will spot any genuine threat.
An MoD spokesman said: “In over fifty years no UFO report revealed any evidence of a potential threat to the United Kingdom.
“The MoD had no specific capability for identifying the nature of such sightings and there would be no benefit in such an investigation. Furthermore, responding to reported UFO sightings diverted MOD resources from tasks that were more relevant to defence.”
The abandonment of the UFO hotline and dedicated desk officer in 2009 had already caused concern among those who believe in the phenomena.
Now the decision to abandon investigations entirely has frustrated some members of the public convinced they have glimpsed the extraterrestrial – and those who are simply unsure of what they have seen.
Jane Randall, a housewife from Woking, Surrey, captured a strange looking object in the skies above Silbury Hill in Wiltshire when she took a photograph using her mobile phone while taking part in a field trip to learn about the archaeology in the area.
She said: “I didn’t see anything at the time, nor did the ten people I was with, but when I looked back over the photos there were two pictures a second apart with this strange conical shape hovering behind the hill.
“The pictures I took either side of this didn’t have any mark on them so I don’t think it could have been dust on the lens.
“I’m just an ordinary person, but thought I should report it to someone so they could take a look. When I phoned the police, they said it was not a police matter and I spoke to someone at the RAF who said they did not investigate UFOs any more.”
Nick Pope, who ran the MoD’s UFO desk from 1991 to 1994 and now researches UFO sightings privately, said: “One of the problems was that an increasing number of the reports the MoD was getting were low quality.
“When someone has a photograph though, that should be considered to be a different situation. The MoD has the personnel and equipment to very quickly analyse an image to tell whether it has been altered and identify what an object might be.
“A lot of ordinary members of the public feel it is their duty to report anything out of the ordinary.
“I get a lot of people contacting me now about sightings and it is frustrating that there is no where official that they can report them – it has become a black hole.”

Super-Massive Black Holes: The Most Destructive Forces in the Universe
Super-Massive Black Holes: The Most Destructive Forces in the Universe:
When Einstein published his theory of general relativity in 1916, physicists all around the world were thrilled. After all, that they had just found a break-through by continuing work of their long-lost predecessor, the great Issac Newton. It finally seemed that the great mystery of gravity, the very force that holds our entire universe together, was finally understood (refer to this post for details on how gravity works – recommended before reading this article). Perhaps now, it appeared that humans would begin to understand the world around them.
Yet, there was a fundamental flaw in Einstein’s equations regarding gravity. This problem could be seen when physicists pointed out that Einstein’s theory couldn’t account for when mass was compressed into an infinitely small volume. The equations indicated that this would lead to a dividing-by-zero operation. To mathematicians, diving by zero leads to the beautiful (yet intricate) concept of infinity (explained here). To the physicists behind Einstein’s theory of general relativity, infinity represented a horrendous nightmare. The equations seemed to imply that the seemingly impossible idea of infinite gravity was actually a possibility. “Space” doesn’t make sense anymore. The concept of time can be thrown out the window. The laws of physics cease to exist. Simply put, our entire understanding of the physical universe is shattered into pieces.
This is exactly what happens at the “Singularity”, the bottom of a black hole (shown above). Mass is compressed and compressed until it seems to disappear into an infinitely small but infinitely dense point. Rest assured though, because Einstein even had an explanation for this! He realized that the flaw in his equations was an accurate one, but he didn’t worry one bit. Einstein simply claimed that Mother Nature would never be capable of producing such a structure, thus allowing him to dispel any attacks on his theory by using the basis of practicality. However, it wasn’t an empty claim – given the physics of that time, Einstein had developed an accurate explanation. It looked like he would never be disproved since the gravity of black holes absorbed all light, and therefore could never be seen.
Fast-forward to 2012 – today, we have predicted the existence of so many black holes that it seems ridiculous their existence was ever doubted at all. Our own Milky Way Galaxy contains around 100,000,000 black holes (100 million). Astronomers have estimated that there are around 100,000,000,000 (100 billion) galaxies in the observable universe. This gives us a (very rough) estimate of nearly 10,000,000,000,000,000,000 (10 quintillion) black holes in only the observable universe! This isn’t only speculation though - we have even managed to obtain the evidence of black holes! Since we can’t see a black hole directly, we have to use “context clues”. One of the methods examines objects for a “wobble” during their orbit. If there isn’t a clearly visible reason for this “wobble” and it seems to have been caused by an object at least three solar masses (thereby ruling out the possibility of neutron stars), it is possible that a black hole exists nearby. Another method utilizes the speed of objects as they are sucked into a black hole. At fast speeds, the high temperatures of the matter cause the emission of X-rays which we can then detect with orbiting telescopes. The final method uses a peculiar property of gravity – its ability to bend light (using the curvature of the space-time continuum). Black holes act as “lenses” where their immense gravity focuses the light from behind. Thus, when a black hole passes between a star and the earth, the star appears brighter than it previously did. We can detect this change in brightness and predict the presence of a black hole.
So we know there are huge numbers of these “natural anomalies” in the universe. But we haven’t exactly defined what constitutes a black hole.
Picture a star (much like the sun) in your mind. All stars are incredibly massive, and this very mass causes them to have their own gravitational field which is constantly compressing the core. Normal stars have enough fuel so that the energy produced by the nuclear reactions inside the core radiates out to counter-act this gravitational compression. However, when a star runs out of fuel, the gravitational force isn’t being balanced out by energy. One of three scenarios are played out here:
1. The star “sheds” vast amounts of matter while the core continues to condense. The core eventually condenses until the electrons in the star have filled up all the low-energy electron levels. This forces the remaining electrons to occupy higher-energy levels which then exert a pressure significant enough to counter-act the gravitational force. This halts the collapse of the core and results in a “white dwarf” (the fate of our Sun*).
2. The star undergoes a violent explosion, known as a supernova, wherein it casts off much of it’s mass. However, the remaining core undergoes the same process described above. In this case though, the initial mass of the star had formed a gravitational force so strong that the pressure from the high-energy electrons isn’t enough to counter-act the collapse. As the core continues to collapse, the electrons and the protons combine to form neutrons. These neutrons then exert a pressure which can counter-act the gravitational force. This typically occurs only when the remnant (after the extra mass is “shed”) has mass of at lease 1.44 solar masses (1 solar mass = the mass of our Sun). This type of star is known as a neutron star.
Both types of condensed cores are incredibly dense – just one teaspoon of white dwarf material is estimated to be greater than 900 kg! Neutron stars take this a step further – the mass of one teaspoon of neutron dwarf material is around 5,500,000,000,000 kg! As incredible as they might seem, both of these densities pale in comparison to the third scenario:
3. The star undergoes the same process as for a neutron star. However, even the pressure exerted by the neutrons isn’t enough to counter-act the tremendous gravitational force. This causes the core to condense…and condense…and condense until – a black hole is born. The core is essentially compressed to a single infinitely small point (the singularity) which has an infinite density. A black hole is formed when the initial remnant core exceeds at least 3 solar masses.
Now time for some basic black hole anatomy**. Black holes appear to “suck” in all the material around them because their gravity bends space-time to the point where objects simply “tend” to fall in. Because of this, active (rotating) black holes have huge amounts of matter spinning around them. This matter is heated up and shines with light, forming what is known as the accretion disk. Deeper into the black hole, there is an imaginary boundary known as the event horizon because beyond the event horizon, any event which takes place will be invisible to observers outside. You see, the event horizon is the location beyond which the black hole bends space-time so much that nothing, even light, can escape. Finally, the most brilliant part of black holes are the jets formed which can often extend thousands of light-years into space. These are formed at the poles of the black holes (before the event horizon) when the matter is heated so much that it gains enough energy to blast away into space. Often times, black holes can be found by looking at Quasars (shown below). Quasars, found at the center of galaxies, are among the brightest objects in the entire universe. They consist of the luminous accretion disk and the jets shooting out from the poles of the black hole.
So just how big are black holes? The black holes that form from stars, called stellar black holes, range from 3 – 100 solar masses in size and continue to grow by “feeding” on the matter around them. Now we get to the ‘star’ of our show – the supermassive black hole. These black holes are so gigantic that it’s almost impossible to even imagine them. A single super-massive may be as enormous as our entire solar system. Super-Massive black holes are so destructive that they bend the space-time continuum to nearly breaking point – they almost rip the very fabric of space. No one really knows how they’re formed, but one theory indicates that they initially start off as stellar black holes that combine with surrounding smaller black holes. Another theory suggests that a super-massive black hole is essentially a normal black hole “gone wild” by consuming vast amounts of matter.
When I first heard about the size of the super-massive black hole at the center of a galaxy known as NGC 4889, I simply refused to believe that something so large and destructive could even exist. This black hole is an estimated 21,000,000,000 (21 billion) solar masses in mass. One solar mass is about 1,989,100,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 (1.99 nonillion) kg.
1.99 nonillion x 21 billion = 41,771,100,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 (41 duodecillion) kg.
That’s how massive this black hole is. Plus, it’s constantly growing by consuming the matter around itself. It’s so large that it’s event horizon extends out nearly 200 times further than Earth’s orbit! Earth’s orbit is around 93,205,700 (93 million) miles away from the sun.
93 million x 200 = 18,641,140,000 (18 billion) miles.
Think about that for a second. Anything, even light, that comes within 18 billion miles of this super-massive black hole will never be able to escape. Never.
Its gravitational field is so strong that it even affects objects as far as 4,000 light years. 60 seconds in a minute. 60 minutes in an hour. 24 hours in a day. 365 days in a year. 4,000 years. Speed of light is 186,282 miles per second.
Multiplying all these values together gives us a distance of 23,498,356,608,000,000 (23.5 quadrillion) miles. Anything that is within this distance is affected by the black hole, which is simply unbelievable.
Now here’s the surprising part. These massive, destructive, terrifying forces of nature are what created me, you, and everything else in the universe. Hard to imagine right? Here’s how. Based on what we found out above, it seems like these super-massive black holes might be incredibly rare. Turns out that the complete opposite is true – super-massive black holes, albeit probably not as large as the one above, exist at the center of almost every galaxy including our very own! Astronomers started looking for the connection between these black holes and galaxies, and what they found was shocking.
In the early universe, there was nothing but formless gas floating around in the vast expanse of space. Something would be needed to form the galaxies we see today – something very much like a black hole. Once the black hole started churning through the gas, the heat and compression would have triggered star-formation and the galaxy would have become alive. Eventually, planets (such as our own) would have formed within those galaxies. So technically, we have to thank super-massive black holes for our presence in this universe.
It seems unlikely that super-massive black holes are what formed everything that exists, but current theories indicate that this is what happened. Instead of thinking of them as forces of destruction, we would be better off by thinking of them as creators. After all, they say that beauty can be found in the most unlikely of places – in this case, that saying seems to have come true.
*Our Sun will actually expand to many times its size first (into a red giant), and then form a white dwarf.
**Some specific parts/details have been omitted for ease of explanation.

West Nile: they’re lying to you again
West Nile: they’re lying to you again:
(NaturalNews) – The government PR machine has swung into high gear promoting West Nile disease. It’s a “national outbreak.” 1138 cases in 38 states. 41 deaths. Planes are spraying toxic aerial pesticides.
Never mind that the US Centers for Disease Control claims 36,000 people die every year from ordinary seasonal flu — and there are no announcements of an “epidemic” or an “outbreak.”
Never mind that the World Health Organization (WHO) claims between 250,000 and 500,000 people die every year from ordinary seasonal flu — and this isn’t called an “epidemic” or an “outbreak.”
If you added up the death count from all the hyped and predicted epidemics of the last decade, including West Nile, SARS, bird flu, weaponized smallpox, and Swine Flu, the total would come to about one year of deaths in the US from ordinary flu.
But who cares about facts? What’s important is how much fear can be generated. That’s the statistic that counts, when you’re talking about the CDC or WHO.
And when it comes to the public, it seems that some people feel a morbid attraction for viruses. Every time a new one is announced, they rub their hands together and say, “This is the big one! It’s going to spread like wildfire!”
Other people, involved in natural health, who reject huge amounts conventional medical wisdom, nonetheless make the mistake of buying the virus of the moment. They automatically accept it as real and then figure out how to treat it naturally. That can be a big mistake.
Have researchers ever actually isolated (found) the West Nile virus? You should be asking that question.
You should always question what the CDC tells you.
The deepest form of medical-research chicanery comes when scientists claim they’ve found a new virus and they haven’t. They haven’t nailed it down. They say they have, but that’s not true.
People have a hard time fathoming this. They will accept the fact that a medical drug touted as miraculous really causes heart attacks, strokes, and death, but for some reason The Virus is sacred territory. “Scientists would never lie about that.” Really? Why not?
Do you think discovering a new virus is like dipping a tweezer into a dish of liquid and picking out a little critter who is shaking his legs? And therefore, nobody can lie about it, because it’s either there or not? No, that’s not the way it works.
A new virus is discovered by taking a tissue sample suspected of harboring it; then that sample must be transferred to a fine filter that will trap the virus. That’s how the initial all-important isolation process is begun.
In the case of West Nile, this was attempted in 1999. It was called a success, but there was a major problem. As I stated in a previous article:
Researchers claim the West Nile virus is 0.04 micrometers. At the same time, they admit that the original fishing expedition for the virus employed filters that were 0.22 micrometers. The obvious conclusion? The filter was too porous. It was nearly six times larger than the virus.
http://abcnews.go.com/Health/story?id=117258&page=4
In fact, Robert McLean, director of the National Wildlife Center of the US Geological Survey, told ABC’s Nick Regush, “We don’t have a purified form of the [West Nile] virus.”
A stunning admission.
The late ABC reporter, Regush, followed up on McLean’s pronouncement with this: “I find no evidence anywhere in the scientific literature that the rules of virus purification and isolation were thoroughly followed [in the case of the West Nile virus].”
People respond to these assertions with an accusatory tone: “Then what’s making people sick? Why are people dying?”
People getting sick and dying doesn’t necessarily have a connection to why health authorities are telling you they’re dying.
If a newspaper reported that a hurricane in Missouri killed 12 people, and then you discovered there had been no hurricane, would you insist on pretending there was, because 12 people died? No, of course not. You would assume the people died for other reasons.
It’s the same situation with West Nile. People get sick and die all the time. If the virus that supposedly is causing an outbreak of illness has never been found, you look for other causes.
Again, from my previous article:
There are some good reasons people in the Dallas area are getting sick. These reasons have nothing to do with “West Nile.”
A decade ago, independent journalist, Jim West, launched an original investigation into the so-called “West Nile epidemic” in New York City.
http://www.naturalhorse.com/archive/volume4/Issue6/article_8.php
West correlated clusters of human and bird “West Nile” cases with several factors; among them, nearby polluting oil refineries, other air pollution (certainly exacerbated by hot summer weather), and the presence of toxic MTBE, an additive that makes gasoline in cars burn cleaner.
There are listings for at least eight refineries in the Dallas area. There are also reports of increased air pollution coming from natural gas production in the Barnett Shale. The 2012 summer has been hot. As of of the year 2000, Texas refineries were producing 75% of all the MTBE in the United States.
And since this has been a very hot and dry summer in other areas of the US, high-air-pollution locales have intensified.
Am I saying that the never-isolated “West Nile virus” might be functioning as a cover story, to conceal what is really making people sick? Absolutely.
As an illustration, the medical history of the African continent is replete with such cover stories. Over and over, germs have been heralded as the cause of people dying in great numbers.
Centuries-old causes of ongoing death in Africa were intentionally overlooked: contaminated water supplies; horrible sanitation; overcrowding; generation-to-generation malnutrition and starvation; stolen farm land.
Most Americans automatically assume the arrival of western doctors with drugs and vaccines is a good sign for Africa. Nothing could be further from the truth. The doctors are sent there to cover up the truth.
Why? Because many interested parties, powerful players inside and outside of Africa, want the true and persisting causes of illness and death to remain, in order to keep the population weak and controllable. It’s easy to hide this agenda by advertising a fake disease-cause and a fake medical remedy. Medical intervention will never cure what’s ailing Africa. If you walked through a swamp of filthy contaminated water every day on your way to work, do you think a course of antibiotics would keep you healthy?
Here in America, when various toxic environmental causes of illness bring people down, there needs to be a cover story as well. The most believable cover is The Virus. It works. People stand up and salute it. They’re saluting it now in Dallas and other places.
I don’t care how many pictures of how many mosquitoes are adorning television screens and newspapers. “Oh, the mosquito carries the West Nile virus!” Really? Even if no one ever found such a virus?
Buy the virus story if you want to. Everyone has that freedom. But science is supposed to be about proof, and in the case of West Nile, it’s all supposition and presumption and lying.
The medical PR machine will grind on. New stories will appear. “The worst summer ever.” “New deaths from West Nile.” “More mosquitoes carrying the deadly West Nile virus found.” “The very young and elderly at greatest risk.” “Medical experts try to discover why West Nile returned with a fury.”
How many people will give in at each new barrage of propaganda and accept the virus story?
Remember Swine Flu? The whole planet was going to go down. In the end, WHO announced the total global death figure as 20,000. Then, in a mindless burst of revisionism this year, the total was changed to 580,000.
Here’s a number for you. Three maniacal spokespeople from the CDC, backed by five major television networks, can brainwash the public about a virus in seven days.

The middle piece – “Ghost of Love” – may be one of my favorite pieces we’ve featured here. I’ve enjoyed seeing all the pieces in her portfolio and in her sketches. Even the works in progress are worth a peek.
Can I tell you how I found out about her? Instagram. My favorite app of the moment. Seriously though, man, there is some great stuff on there. Kristina has posts of her sketches, which in my opinion is a brilliant extension of her site, brand, etc. Just say yes to social media.

Slender Man Game
The store behind Slender Man.
The Slender Man was created at the Something Awful Forums in a thread entitled "Create Paranormal Images." He is described as wearing a black suit strikingly similar to the visage of the notorious Men In Black, and as the name suggests, appears very thin and able to stretch his limbs and torso to inhuman lengths in order to induce fear and ensnare his prey. Once his arms are outstretched, his victims are put into something of a hypnotized state, where they are utterly helpless to stop themselves from walking into them.
Not much is known, as no specific information has been found about origins, but his objective and habitat are made very clear. He has the need to kidnap children, and is seen right before the disappearance of a child or multiple children. He seems to prefer fog enshrouded streets and wooded areas as a way to conceal himself from being noticed. It should also be noted that children have been able to see him when no other adults in the vicinity could. Children also have dreams or nightmares concerning The Slender Man before their disappearance. Confiding these stories to their parents are met with the usual parental admonition: overactive imaginations.
Slender man has been turned into a first person horror game created by Parsec Productions where your only goal is to find 8 manuscripts about the Slender Man, a paranormal creature.
The more directly you come in contact with the Slender Man, the faster your sanity drains.

Richard Sumner found handcuffed to a tree
Artist died 'handcuffed to tree'
|
Richard Sumner's skeleton was found handcuffed to a tree
|
Mr Sumner, from Crosby, Merseyside, may have changed his mind about killing himself but could not reach the keys, the Denbigh inquest was told.
The coroner recorded an open verdict.
Mr Sumner, at one time a scenic artist for opera productions at Glyndebourne, had suffered from schizophrenia since 1984.
The hearing was told he had attempted to take his life in this manner before and in 1996 had taken four days to free himself.
His skeleton was found by a woman who had become lost while walking her dog.
|
Home Office pathologist Brian Rogers
|
However, Home Office pathologist Brian Rogers said the position of the handcuffs and marks found on the tree indicated that Mr Sumner had probably changed his mind, but could not reach the key.
"It's possible he took an overdose of tablets. It's possible he took poison. Clearly he had handcuffed himself to the tree and he had thrown away the key."
'Talented and intelligent'
When asked by Mr Sumner's sister, Patricia Jones, if he could say how long her brother would have taken to die, Mr Rogers said: "He could have been there for a few days. If you handcuff yourself to a tree you would die fairly quickly but maybe not as quickly as you would like."
Mr Hughes heard evidence that Mr Sumner was a talented, intelligent man who felt frustrated by his illness and who said he did not wish to be a parasite.
His sister told the court that her brother had spoken of taking his own life and she confirmed there had been three previous attempts.
"His idea was to kill himself but he couldn't do it because he couldn't upset everybody, including the people who would find his body," she said.
She said that was the reason he had gone so far into the wood - in the hope his remains would not be found.
Coroner John Hughes concluded: "It's clear that Richard John Sumner was a very troubled man and he was getting worse and he was very depressed."
He expressed his "sincere sympathies" to Mr Sumner's family but said he could not know for sure how he died or whether he really intended to take his own life. "Sadly, I return a verdict of an open nature, an open verdict," he told them.

Via Yahoo:
A mysterious blotch that appeared along the horizon in a photo from the surface of Mars stirred speculation about what it might be, as two hours later it was gone.Opinions welcome. A few to get us started, based solely on the contour & shape of the smudgy silhouette:
One image from the Curiosity rover as it landed on the fourth planet from the sun showed a “faint but distinctive” image on the horizon, the Los Angeles Times reported. However, a subsequent batch of images sent from the unmanned rover two hours later showed no trace of the blotch.
One theory put forth by space enthusiasts in the L.A. Times story is that Curiosity had somehow snapped a photo of part of the spacecraft that escorted the rover through the Martian atmosphere crash-landing a distance away.

If there was ever any doubt that the judge would do what Vladimir Putin wanted, it has now been erased. Protests reacting to the verdict are in progress. Report from USA Today:
A Russian judge found three members of the provocative punk band Pussy Riot guilty of hooliganism on Friday, in one of the most closely watched cases in recent Russian history.[continues at USA Today]
The judge said the three band members committed hooliganism driven by religious hatred and offending religious believers.
The three were arrested in March after a guerrilla performance in Moscow’s main cathedral calling for the Virgin Mary to protect Russia against Vladimir Putin, who was elected to a new term as Russia’s president a few days later.
They face a maximum seven years in prison. The sentence is to be handed down later Friday.
The case has attracted international attention as an emblem of Russia’s intolerance of dissent. It also underlines the vast influence of the Russian Orthodox Church. Although church and state are formally separate, the church identifies itself as the heart of Russian national identity and critics say its strength effectively makes it a quasi-state entity…
Demonoid Domain Names Now Up For Sale
Demonoid Domain Names Now Up For Sale:
If any of you intrepid Demonoid users out there have been wondering what has become of your most trusted torrent site (even their affable ‘site down’ page went missing) after the DDoS attack and alleged raid last week, it turns out that things may be worse than we expected.

via David Murphy at PCMag:
The Demonoid domain names are now officially for sale via Sedo, the final nail in the coffin for the popular site that was taken down via a combined assault from the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry and Interpol.Depending on how much you believe in coincidence, it may seem strange that so many online resources are being shut down at roughly the same time. And though authorities claim to be in possession of all Demonoid data, their ISP, Colocall, claims that no information was ever seized. All the invite-hoarding Demonoid users may remain safe.
Inquiries and investigations spanned both Ukraine and Mexico, arriving in the wake of a distributed denial of service attack that kept Demonoid offline for a week or so prior to authorities going after Demonoid’s hosting and leadership.
“The operation to close Demonoid was a great example of international cooperation to tackle a service that was facilitating the illegal distribution of music on a vast scale. I would like to thank all those officers involved in this operation to close a business that was built on the abuse of other people’s rights,” said IFPI anti-piracy director Jeremy banks in a statement.
While the site’s only tech admin was hopeful that Demonoid would return in some capacity following the DDOS attack, reports TorrentFreak, it appears that the towel has finally been thrown in on the popular torrent community.
There’s no listed price for just how much the three Demonoid domains are going for: demonoid.me, demonoid.com, and demonoid.ph. The Sedo sale is of the “make an offer” variety, and eight such offers have been submitted as of this article’s writing. Unfortunately, Sedo doesn’t list exactly what these offers are, or even give a ballpark as to what interested buyers are bidding for the domain.
“Selling the domains now while traffic to Demonoid remains high should ensure a good price for the vendor, but it seems unlikely that any buyer would look to relaunch as a torrent site,” writes TorrentFreak’s “enigmax.”

Via Mental Floss:
Terrifying monsters have lumbered, lurched, stalked and devoured their way through many world religions for untold millennia.
They were sometimes devised to frighten for purposes of cultural control – or as mythologic personifications of harsh, inexplicable forces. In the case of the Book of Revelation, monsters often symbolized the oppressive political tactics of the Roman empire.
Today’s religious monsters might well include: a ghoulish pedophile Priest with scaly-gropy fingers; or a polyester-swaddled fire-breathing Baptist Preacher; or maybe a grinning Televangelist that spews fundamentalist bile from its jack-o-lantern head; or a shape-shifting Republican p
olitician that can somehow take the form of & draw hateful power from every pitchfork wielding mob it encounters, no matter the religion.
Now if only Sam & Dean from “Supernatural” would hunt THEM!
